Minimal Sedation Dentistry

Minimal sedation dentistry, also known as sleep dentistry, is an innovative dental procedure that utilizes medication to help you relax during a visit to the dentist.  Minimal sedation dentistry will come as a relief to patients who have a low pain threshold, extremely sensitive teeth, or a general phobia of undergoing dental work.

At Oceanfront Dentistry we understand that a visit to the dentist can be a scary experience.  We also understand the importance of your dental health to your overall health and don’t want fear to keep you away. In our effort to make your time here as comfortable as possible, we offer several options that will help you to relax and stay calm during your dental treatment. Many people find that being minimally sedated allows them to receive more treatment at their appointment, requiring fewer appointments overall. Patients also find that they are more relaxed, comfortable and cooperate better than they do when they are not sedated.

Oceanfront Dentistry offers two minimal sedation options for patients: Nitrous Oxide and Oral Conscious Sedation. Please see below for a description of both:

Nitrous Oxide, or “laughing gas,” is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. Nitrous Oxide will not put you to sleep. You will still be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions given to you. The effects of Nitrous Oxide wear off soon after the mask is removed.

Oral Conscious Sedation utilizes an oral sedative medication to significantly reduce your fears and discomfort. You are still able to breathe and speak on your own. Here at Oceanfront Dentistry, we do require that you have someone available to drive you to your appointment and home from your appointment if you opt for Minimal Oral Conscious Sedation.
